History & Story behind Drupal

Dries Buytaert from Netherlands, developed Drupal. Originally, it was originated as a bulletin board system. It became an Open Source project in 2001. There is an interesting story behind the name “Druple” like “Google”. Buytaert made a typo when checking the domain name(Drop.org) as he wanted to call the site "dorp" ("village" in Dutch) for its community aspects, decided the altered form sounded better (Drupal is a transliteration of the Dutch "druppel" which means droplet).
